Amagajo Park

Amagajo Park

Introduction

At an elevation of 120 meters, there is a great view of the majestically flowing Oyodo River. Also, you will be able to see the Kirishima mountain range to the west, and the Sea of Hyuga and Miyazaki city to the east. Magnificent Amagajo, which can be seen from national highway 10, is in wonderful harmony with its surroundings and perfectly complements the town of Takaoka.

As well there being sports facilities such as a baseball field and gymnasium, there is also Amagajo Museum of History & Folklore, slides, a mini golf area and a tea house.

Senbonzakura & Azalea

The 1,300 or so Yoshino cherry trees (40 years old) centered around the eastern slope are known as “Senbonzakura” and the best time to see them is at the end of March/beginning of April. There are also 50,000 azaleas that come into bloom after the cherry trees with beautiful crimson flowers.

Miyazaki City Amagajo Museum of History & Folklore

The museum is inside the park in a castle-style building. Here you can learn about the lives of the people who lived in the Oyodo River area, the ways of samurai society at that time when Hyuga was its center, as well as the history, culture and industry of Takaoka. (The museum is closed on Mondays, or closed the next day if a public holiday. Entry is free.)
